Main stages of development

Founded in 1950 The origins of the Company's production activity date back to April 1950 when, thanks to a group of private operators who are still today among the shareholders, and the Municipality of Turin, Centrale del Latte di Torino & C. S.p.A. was formed with the purpose of offering a satisfactory response to the then hygiene/health requirements as far as milk was concerned, besides satisfying the city population's need for milk in a more rational and comprehensive manner.
The Municipality jointly subscribed to the Company's capital stock and took on the role of protecting health and safeguarding social interests and those of categories operating in the dairy products sector - manufacturers, producers and sales outlets - who were given management responsibility.
1964: UHT is introduced The mid-sixties saw the first new products and entry into the long shelf-life (UHT) milk segment for which the Centrale was among the first companies in Italy to adopt the new Tetrapak carton to replace the traditional glass bottle.
Distribution areas expand Up to 1974, on the basis of an agreement with the Municipality, the Company operated as a monopoly supplier within the urban area; later when the market was liberalised it extended its influence to the entire province of Turin and other provinces too - Vercelli, Cuneo, Asti. Alessandria, Biella and Aosta.
1980: split off of production activities To make its business more incisive in 1980 the Centrale's production and marketing activity was split off from its financial activities by means of the creation of Centrale del Latte di Torino Gestione Industriale S.p.A. (today CLT & C.). At the same time other milk-based products, such as yoghurt, cream and fresh cheese were added to normal milk production.
Constant investment in production In the following years up until the present day the owners have been extremely attentive to and made considerable investments - more than 30 billion lire - in improving plant and equipment, but also the selection of farms and the control and development of the product range.
With its focus on constant growth and geographical diversification, in 1991 the Centrale purchased a 20% share in Centro Latte Rapallo S.p.A., a dairy product company located in the province of Genoa specialised in the production and marketing of fresh milk and derivatives in Genoa itself and the Ligurian coast.
Birth of the fresh milk group: CLT & C.
n April 1999 the strategic decision was taken to become a leader in the fresh milk, derivatives and fresh product sector by means of both internal and external growth: Centrale del Latte di Torino & C. S.p.A. was the result of an operation that included a capital stock increase from 2 to 28.5 billion lire, in part by way of a bonus issue and in part paid-up, the share merger with Centro Latte Rapallo through acquisition of the remaining 79.98% of the capital stock and the entry of new shareholders.
And, lastly, in July of this year the Shareholders' Meeting approved the request for admission to be listed on the Stock Exchange.
